When we come into this world, we are but gems in the rough
As we pass through life
We are shaped by many things
In the early years, we are shaped by our surroundings
And that sets us on our path
Eventually, as life passes, and after many hands
We grow and learn to use those tools Ourselves
Slowly, hesitantly, we begin to shape ourselves
But sometimes our hands are unsure
For we have been shaped by those early influences
For some, they are unable to undo that which has set them in other directions
Thus they cannot reshape themselves into that which they know should be
As others have shaped themselves...
From few to many facets
Brighter...
more brilliant
Thus becoming as they know they should be
Yet...
Some are flawed
From hands unsure
And of them I have known many
And I have tried to help guide their hands
To use the tools to turn those flaws into beauty
For some I was able to help
Others...
I have failed
And because of those failings
Mine own hands have become as their's
For we should never stop trying to shape ourselves
As we know, feel we should be
And I shall never stop shaping myself
Nor shall I ever stop trying to guide other's hands
The one facet of myself that I can't change
And Yet
There are those that have unwavering hands
And soon transform themselves
From rough gems to glistening jewels
As I have gone through life
I have been graced with knowing those jewels
Though rare and exquisite
They have brought me joy
And also sadness
For they were not mine to have and cherish
Onward
